On September 19, 2018, a disturbing discovery was made at Lamuria Garden apartments, where the lifeless body of Monica Kimani was found in a bathtub.
According to the caretaker, Regan Buluku, who testified in the murder trial of Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, and Jacque Maribe, Monica's hands and legs were tied with a strap, and the tap in the bathtub was left running.
Mr. Buluku stated that Monica's throat had been slit, and he immediately called the security manager, who informed the police.
Earlier that day, Monica's brother George had tried reaching her, but she wasn't picking up her phone. He later arrived at the apartment with his fiancée, and they found the lights on, candles placed around the bathtub, and the TV playing.
Other witnesses, including a delivery executive, Dennis Wanjala, and a businesswoman, Chelangat Ruto, also testified in the trial.
Mr. Wanjala stated that Monica had received a parcel from a counterpart in South Sudan on the day she arrived, which was sent through a company known as Netlink Business Services Ltd.
Ms. Ruto told the court that she and her friend had a late lunch with Jowie and another man at Q Lounge in Kilimani on September 18, 2018, and later met Jacque Maribe at Royal Media Services.
