Angela Munguti, a 17-year-old Kenyan athlete, has been handed a four-year doping ban after violating Anti-Doping Rules.

According to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), Munguti tested positive for the banned substance Norandrosterone during an out-of-competition doping test conducted at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina last year.

As a result, Munguti will be ineligible to compete for four years, starting from October 7, 2018, when she underwent the test. She will also forfeit any titles, awards, medals, points, and prizes she may have won since then.

AIU stated that Munguti admitted to the findings and waived her right to a hearing, accepting the disqualification of her results obtained at the Olympic Games.

“The athlete signed a form by which she admitted the ADR, waived her right to a hearing and accepted the disqualification of her results obtained at the Olympic Games…,” read part of the statement.

The athlete, along with the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), still have the option to appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
