On November 27, 2019, Dismas Indiza secured the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort Safari Tour title with a round of 1-under par, 70, bringing his overall score to 1-over par, 285.
Indiza started the round six strokes behind overnight leader Simon Ngige, and the two were drawn to play alongside each other from the last group, making for an exciting end to the tournament.
Ngige opened his round with a birdie on the par-4 first, while Indiza bogeyed on the same hole. However, Indiza hit a birdie on the par-4 second, while Ngige dropped a shot.
Ngige dropped two more shots on the third hole, while Indiza held par. Despite this, Ngige maintained his lead through the first nine holes, carding a turning score of 2-over par, 37, while Indiza scored 1-over par, 36.
At the back nine, Indiza gained momentum, while Ngige struggled to keep up. The two matched each other's scores on holes 10 to 12, posting par, par, and bogey. However, Ngige's bogey and double bogey on the fourteenth and fifteenth holes, respectively, gave Indiza the opportunity to take the lead.
Indiza birdied the par-5 seventeenth hole to tie for the lead heading into the last hole, the par-4 eighteenth. Ngige held on for par, while Indiza sunk a 10-foot putt for birdie, securing the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort Safari Tour title.
Speaking after the win, Indiza expressed his surprise at securing his second Safari Tour title of the season.
“I am very happy to win this leg of the Safari Tour. I had not realised that I had beaten Ngige and was preparing for a playoff, only for Ngige to congratulate me at the end of the round,” Indiza said.
Indiza also expressed his gratitude for the challenging four-day tournament, which he said had helped him maintain his game despite the changing weather.
On his part, Ngige congratulated Indiza on his win, acknowledging that he had missed several chances to secure the title.
For his troubles, Indiza pocketed Sh105,000 and a maximum 50 ‘Road to the 2020 Magical Kenya Open’ points, taking his total to 290.6 at the top of the standings. Ngige took home Sh75,000 and posted 48 points to take him into third place on the Road to Kenya Open standings.
