Stress can creep up on you, making it difficult to manage. However, there are simple yet effective ways to reduce stress levels. According to a Harvard Health study on Exercising to Relax, exercise is one of the best ways to burn off excess stress hormones that build up throughout the day.

Engaging in a few quick minutes of lunges and push-ups can reduce cortisol production and get your head back in check. This is because exercise releases feel-good endorphins while boosting mental clarity.

Music is another powerful tool in reducing stress. According to Insight Report: Potential Therapeutic Targets for Alzheimer’s, music is one of the only treatments that temporarily reduce symptoms of patients with late-stage degenerative brain disease.

So, if it can work on them, it can work for you too. Take a few minutes to listen to your favorite music and let the stress melt away.

Lastly, the sense of smell can be a great way to ground yourself after moments of high stress. Your nose is a direct line of communication to the amygdala, the area of the brain most strongly tied to emotions and memory recall.

Take a whiff of anything tied to good memories, such as a scent or a food, and let the stress fade away.
