On November 27, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta unveiled the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, assuring Kenyans that the proposals in the document aimed to build a cohesive and progressive country.
The President, speaking from Bomas of Kenya, highlighted the report's focus on addressing challenges such as unemployment, electoral violence, poverty, and corruption.
He cautioned the political class against divisive politics, emphasizing that individual thirst for power should never override national interests.
President Kenyatta appealed to Kenyans to read and internalize the recommendations in the report without undue influence from political rhetoric.
The BBI report proposes significant changes to the country's governance system, including the nomination of a Prime Minister from the largest party or coalition in parliament.
Other key recommendations include the renaming of Cabinet Secretaries to Cabinet Ministers, the bar on civil servants from doing business with the government, and measures to promote gender equality in leadership.
Deputy President William Ruto, Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and other national leaders attended the launch event, emphasizing the importance of unity and cooperation in implementing the report's recommendations.
