Published on November 27, 2019, the M-PESA Foundation Academy has made history by becoming the first learning institution to be recognized as the Company of the Year at the East Africa CIO awards.
The academy received three awards in total, including two for their innovative use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning.
According to Paul Ngugi, the head of Technology and Learning Innovations at the academy, the recognition is a testament to the institution's commitment to integrating technology into education.
“We are honored to have been recognized for our integration of technology in the way we deliver education. Our learners and teachers have fully embraced technology in the way they learn and teach, including delivery of content, assessment, research, and presentations,” Ngugi said.
The academy's CEO, Les Baillie, also expressed his gratitude, stating that the award is a recognition of the hard work put in by the Technology and Learning Innovations team to ensure that learners and educators are exposed to the latest technology and learning management systems.
One of the programs that has contributed to the academy's success is the Little Engineer Program, launched in partnership with the Airbus Foundation last year. The program aims to encourage students between the ages of 10 and 16 to understand, embrace technology, and ignite a passion for careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The academy offers full four-year scholarships to economically disadvantaged students, providing them with a platform to succeed.
