Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service Centre in Crisis ¶
Philip Ogola, a digital humanitarian and social media expert, has brought to light the shocking state of the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service Centre. In a series of tweets, Ogola highlighted the centre's dire situation, citing a lack of essential equipment and personnel.
According to Ogola, the centre's blood banks are empty, and it lacks drivers, working vehicles, gloves for medical personnel, blood bags, strapping materials, and distilled water to test and screen blood and blood products. The facility's cold room, which is crucial for storing blood, has also broken down.
Ogola, who has worked with the Kenya Red Cross Society and is the brainchild behind the #iVolunteer campaign, stated that the centre's inability to function properly is causing blood donors to be turned away. He also revealed that he receives over 10 blood appeal messages every day, which he shares on various platforms to help those in need find blood donors.
As a survivor of acute nephritis of the kidney, Ogola understands the importance of access to blood and blood products. He has called on the Ministry of Health to respond to the centre's dire situation and address the issues plaguing the facility.
Philip Ogola's tweets, which have gone viral, have sparked concern about the state of the Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service Centre. The centre's inability to function properly is a cause for concern, and it is essential that the Ministry of Health takes immediate action to address the issues.
