On Tuesday, StarTimes Kenya and the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Radio and Television launched a joint broadcast content development effort to find Kenya's next movie superstars. The project, which is funded by the Chinese government, aims to promote cross-cultural exchange and build local capacity for content developers.
The reality TV show, which is designed to search for the next outstanding movie superstars, will feature a panel of judges and mentors, including Raymond Ofula, Neomi Ngang'a, Peter Kamau, and Nick Mutuma. The grand prize for the winners will be an opportunity to star in a local movie that will be launched on international platforms.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Kiprop Lagat, the Director of Culture at the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Heritage, noted that the collaboration between the two parties is a significant step towards promoting local talent and sharing experiences with the people of China through film.
Mr. Xu Liquo, the Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film, and Television, also expressed his excitement about the project, saying that it marks the 5th anniversary of their TV series Africa exhibition and that they are impressed with the warm reception and adaptability of the local audience.
StarTimes has already invested over 200 million shillings in the establishment of Rembo TV, an exclusive local channel available on the platform. The reality TV show will run weekly on the StarTimes Sino-Drama channel from December 8th.
