Kenya may soon bid farewell to Boxing Day, a holiday celebrated a day after Christmas, as the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) proposes replacing it with National Culture Day.

According to the BBI report, the change aims to promote Kenyan cultures and values, and to encourage Kenyans to celebrate each other's cultures.

December 26 and January 1 will be set aside as cultural days, allowing Kenyans to learn about and appreciate their diverse cultures.

"Replace Boxing Day on December 26 with National Culture Day for celebrating culture and learning about other Kenyan cultures (this can also be done on January 1)," reads the report.

The BBI team suggests that these changes should start from the family unit, supported by initiatives that embrace the positive cultures, beliefs, and ideals of Kenya's diverse communities.

As part of the proposal, the team wants ethics to be taught from nursery to university as a compulsory subject, and for the president to commission an Official History of Kenya.

These changes are aimed at ensuring Kenya and Kenyans have the highest standards of ethos, and to build unity among the country's diverse communities.
