Laikipia University has announced that it will confer an honorary doctorate in Science degree on Eliud Kipchoge during its 7th graduation ceremony on December 6.
According to an advertisement in the local dailies, the university's decision is based on the Laikipia University Charter, 2013, Section III(21) (4) (k), which allows for the conferment of honorary degrees upon recommendation of the university senate and approval thereof by the Laikipia University Council.
Laikipia University Vice-Chancellor Prof Kibett Rotich described Kipchoge's achievements as a tremendous contribution to the world of sports, citing his remarkable feat of endurance in the INEOS Challenge in Austria, Vienna, where he ran under 2 hours in October this year.
Prof Rotich praised Kipchoge's achievement, saying, 'In a remarkable feat of endurance, Eliud delivered his 'moon landing' moment by crossing the finishing line in a mind-blowing time of 1:59:40 in Vienna, as he delivered on his pledge to prove that 'No Human is Limited.'
Since then, Kipchoge has received several commendations, including the 'Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart' award from President Uhuru Kenyatta on Mashujaa Day (October 20) and the Male of the Year award during the World Athletics gala in Monaco on November 23.
