On November 27, 2019, the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) boss Ezekiel Mutua sparked a controversy when he had the song Tarimbo by Kenyan boy group Ethic pulled down from YouTube.
According to Mutua, the song advocated for the rape of women, which he deemed criminal. He also called on the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to arrest the group.
However, the group apologized for any misunderstanding, stating that their intention was not to promote violence against women. They also promised to produce better music.
Despite this, the song was back on YouTube, only to be pulled down again a few hours later.
It is unclear why the song was reinstated, but it has since been removed from the platform once more.
As the drama surrounding the song continues, many are left wondering if the group should just move on and release a new song.
