On November 26, 2019, the murder trial of Monica Kimani took a dramatic turn in court. The prosecution's case against Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, and former Citizen TV presenter Jacque Maribe suffered a significant blow.

A government analyst, Joseph Kagunda, testified that the DNA found on white strands used to tie Kimani's hands and a beer can could not be linked to Jowie. The DNA was instead identified as an unidentified male profile.

Kagunda revealed that he had received 73 exhibits from the investigating police, including a knife, a wine glass, beer bottles, clothes, open shoes, a bloodstained towel, and adhesive tape, as well as DNA samples from several people.

Furthermore, Kagunda stated that items collected in Maribe's car did not match those of the slain businesswoman, Monica Kimani.

Maribe and Jowie are charged with the murder of Kimani at her Lamuria Gardens Apartment in Kilimani, off Dennis Pritt Road, on September 19, 2018.
