On November 27, 2019, AFC Leopards captain Soter Kayumba sparked controversy after rejecting calls by the club to travel by bus from Rwanda to Nairobi.
According to reports, Kayumba left for Rwanda shortly after the 4-1 defeat to Gor Mahia in the Mashemeji derby at MISC Kasarani on November 10.
He has since missed the team’s matches against Bandari FC and Kisumu All-Stars, in which Leopards picked four points out of a possible six.
Speaking exclusively to Citizen Digital, Kayumba argued that it is hectic for one to travel all the way from Rwanda to Nairobi by bus.
“… I talked to CEO(Chief Executive Officer) asking them (Leopards) to give me air ticket but they want me to come by bus.
“I cannot manage to travel by bus to Nairobi,” he argued.
The 12-time league champions are feeling the financial strain since their main sponsors, a gaming firm, halted its operation in Kenya in April this year.
