Published on November 27, 2019, a day that would go down in history as a tumultuous one for Nikola Kavazovic, the former coach of AFC Leopards.
After a stint with Township Rollers in Serbia, Kavazovic had moved to Botswana to take charge of Gaborone United, but his tenure was cut short after a chaotic Sunday match against Jwaneng Galaxy.
According to reports, the Serbian coach was forced to flee the stadium in a police car for his safety, as angry fans sought to confront him.
United announced on Monday that Kavazovic had resigned, citing the need to prioritize his safety.
"This is to inform the public that our coach, Nikola Kavazovic, has resigned with immediate effect," the statement read.
It was a dramatic turn of events for Kavazovic, who had left AFC Leopards in August 2018, citing family reasons, only to return to Africa and coach Free State Stars in South Africa a few weeks later.
However, his contract with the South African club was terminated after he was suspended and subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing.
Since his departure from Ingwe, Kavazovic had been under intense scrutiny, and it seemed that the pressure had finally taken its toll.
