Embu Man Sentenced to Jail for Stealing Coffee Berries

On November 27, 2019, a court in Embu handed down a one-year jail sentence to a 22-year-old man for stealing coffee berries worth Ksh. 600.

Stephen Kariuki Ndwigah, a resident of Kibugu village in Embu, was found guilty of stealing the coffee berries from his neighbor's farm.

Appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Tony Kwambia, Ndwigah pleaded guilty to the charges.

According to court records, Ndwigah was caught by his neighbor, Njeru, and his wife while picking coffee berries from their farm.

When confronted, Ndwigah took off, leaving behind a nylon bag containing the stolen coffee berries.

The couple reported the incident to the Kibugu Police Station, leading to a manhunt for Ndwigah.

He was eventually arrested and charged with the crime.

Magistrate Kwambia ruled that Ndwigah would serve one year in jail or pay a fine of Ksh. 20,000.
