On November 27, 2019, France's Junior Economy Minister, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, announced plans to include Huawei Technologies in the country's 5G equipment rollout.
This decision comes after the country began the sale of 5G spectrum through its Telecommunications Regulator, Arcep.
France's move is significant, given the US blacklisted Huawei in May 2019, limiting its access to components like Intel microprocessors and Google services.
The US claimed that the ban was due to Huawei's 'involvement in activities determined to be contrary to national security.'
Despite the US ban, Huawei has found ways to continue its operations. The company has a 25% market share in France, alongside Nokia and Ericsson.
Other countries that have incorporated Huawei in their 5G programs include Germany, Brazil, and the Netherlands.
Headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, Huawei Technologies is a Chinese multinational technology company that provides telecommunications equipment and sells consumer electronics, including smartphones.
