On November 24, 2019, Jambojet had announced plans to launch two new routes, starting with Mogadishu and Kigali. However, the airline's Somalia entry was delayed due to a delay in securing necessary authorizations.
Despite the setback, Jambojet successfully launched flights to Kigali, Rwanda, on Monday, marking a major milestone in its regional expansion strategy.
According to Jambojet Chief Executive Allan Kilavuka, the airline had requested time slots for the Mogadishu route but did not receive them. As a result, the airline has rescheduled its Somalia entry to next year, targeting February 2020.
Speaking after the successful maiden flight from Nairobi to Kigali, Mr. Kilavuka stated, 'We were to begin operations in Mogadishu on November 24. However, we did not get the time slots we had requested and hence we are still in discussions with the authorities.'
Jambojet, which recently expanded its fleet with two brand new De Havilland Dash 8 - 400, will fly once daily from its hub at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Kigali International Airport.
The airline plans to expand to South Sudan, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Comoros, and Malawi, and has six planes in its fleet, with two more awaiting delivery.
