Published on November 27, 2019, the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report has proposed significant changes to the Kenyan constitution, including the appointment process for the Prime Minister.
According to the report, the Prime Minister will be appointed by the President, but with some caveats. The President will select a candidate from a list of three names submitted by the party or coalition with the majority in the National Assembly.
The selected candidate must then be approved by the National Assembly through a vote of confidence. If the candidate fails to secure a majority vote, the President will have to select another candidate from the list.
The BBI report aims to address various issues affecting Kenya, including the appointment of the Prime Minister. The proposed changes are part of a broader effort to strengthen the country's democratic institutions and promote national unity.
