On a chilly Sunday in November, a group of friends, led by comedian Jodell Lewis, embarked on an ambitious project: serving a full Thanksgiving meal on a Brooklyn-bound L train in New York City.
As reported by NBC New York on November 27, 2019, the group spent months planning the stunt, which aimed to bring people together and provide a unique Thanksgiving experience for passengers.
With the help of friends and collaborators, including local rapper Christopher Dupree and chef Brandi Baxter, the group set up a feast on the train, complete with turkey, collard greens, and macaroni and cheese.
"A lot of people haven’t had black Thanksgiving," Mr. Lewis said, explaining the idea behind the stunt. "So, the idea, he said, was to ‘make people feel like we’re inviting you to our home.’"
As the train made its way through Manhattan, the group shared the meal with passengers, who were delighted by the unexpected surprise.
"It was amazing to provide a classic New York City moment," Mr. Dupree said, reflecting on the experience.
The group's stunt sparked a viral sensation, with videos of the meal garnering over 152,000 likes on TikTok.
