Twitter has announced plans to clean up inactive accounts, which will be deleted by December 11th if owners don't sign in. This means that usernames currently held by inactive accounts will be available for new users to claim.

According to Twitter, the deletion process will take place over several months, not a single day. The company aims to present more accurate and credible information on the platform by removing inactive accounts.

As part of this effort, Twitter is encouraging users to actively log in and use their accounts when they register. This is stated in the company's inactive accounts policy.

Users with bots or secondary accounts shouldn't worry, as these will not be affected if they remain active. To maintain an account, users simply need to log in, which may disappoint those looking to acquire certain usernames.

Twitter's spokesman told The Verge that the company is committed to serving the public conversation and cleaning up inactive accounts to provide a more trustworthy experience.
