On November 26, 2019, Bujumbura Mayor Freddy Mbonimpa issued 13 orders aimed at boosting security in the city.

One of the key measures is the restriction of bar opening hours, with bars now allowed to operate from 5pm to 9pm on working days and from 1pm to 9pm on holidays and weekends.

Additionally, joint security committees must be set up in areas where they do not exist, and existing ones strengthened to improve coordination and response to security threats.

Furthermore, youth hangout places known as Ligala must be disbanded, and every city resident is required to clean the front of their home.

Residents are also expected to install at least two lamp posts and light them, while the price of cement from Burundi Cement Company (Buceco) has been fixed at 24,500 FBu ($15) per 50 kg bag.

Street vending of phone airtime is strictly forbidden in Bujumbura, and hawking is also banned.

Car owners are required to clear damaged parts from the streets, while restaurant owners must install spotlights to keep their premises lit and hire at least two security guards.

Finally, rubble and sand must be cleared from the streets to maintain a clean and secure environment.
