On November 26, 2019, a tragic incident shook the community in Kiamunyi, Nakuru, when a 26-year-old woman was found dead in her home, allegedly strangled by her husband.
According to Nakuru County Police Commander Stephen Matu, the woman's body was discovered on her bed with the doors locked, and a note beside her indicated that her husband had left for the Menengai Crater with their child, intending to take his own life.
However, the child was later rescued, but the details of the location remain unclear. The body has since been moved to the Nakuru County Municipal Mortuary for a postmortem.
Residents are calling on the government to intensify the fight against gender-based violence, which has led to multiple killings in the area. The deceased's father, Sammy Ngigi, has also urged the authorities to expedite the investigations and ensure justice is served.
The incident comes in the wake of another horrific murder in Nanyuki, where a woman and two children were found dead in a shallow grave near the Laikipia Air base. The main suspect, Peter Mugure, is currently in police custody.
