On Tuesday morning, a fire engulfed a rental house at Slaughter Estate within Kitui Township, leaving two lovers with severe burns.
According to Julius Mutinda, a neighbour, a ball of fire burst out from the victim’s house, taking them hours to put out.
‘We were startled by a huge fire coming from their house. We immediately raised alarm and called for help from the Red Cross, who responded swiftly. However, by the time they arrived, the two had been burnt severely,’ Mutinda said.
Kitui Central OCPD Musa Abduba stated that the two were lovers who had parted ways, only for the man to resurface on Tuesday when he visited the woman.
Abduba added that preliminary investigations had established that there was a disagreement between the two before the mysterious fire consumed them.
Neighbours have called on the county government to improve the poor road network within the estate, which hampered the rescue operation.
