On Tuesday, November 26, 2019, Kitale County Mortuary in Trans Nzoia County received ten bodies of landslide victims from West Pokot County, according to Trans Nzoia County health CEC Clare Wanyama.

Police in West Pokot County had transported the bodies to Kitale after Kapenguria Mortuary was unable to accommodate more bodies. The bodies were part of over 50 retrieved by rescue teams since the rescue mission started on Saturday morning.

Some more bodies have been reportedly taken to Eldoret for preservation, although the exact number could not be verified.

CEC Clare Wanyama confirmed the receipt of the bodies, stating, 'It is true we have received 10 bodies at the county referral mortuary following the landslide in West Pokot county.'

The bodies from West Pokot County brought the total number of flood victims kept at the facility to 11, following the retrieval of a boda boda rider from Exodus River.

Enos Sasita, 36, was swept away by raging floods while headed to Stabicha area from Mitume in Kitale.

Over 300 people displaced by floods at Namanjalala market in West Pokot County are seeking government assistance to resettle elsewhere and use their farms to grow rice.

They complained that they lose property every year and that the government should provide alternative areas to settle.

Grace Nekesa, a resident, urged the government to consider providing alternative land to settle in order to end the perennial suffering.

She added, 'The state can use our farms for crop production.'
