The initiative aims to create the first-ever Sino-Africa reality television show, highlighting deep cross-cultural exchange and building local capacity for both local creatives and content developers.
The show, titled Next Superstar, is designed to search for the next outstanding movie superstar and will feature a panel of judges and mentors, including Raymond Ofula, Neomi Ngang'a, Peter Kamau, and Nick Mutuma.
Produced by StarTimes in collaboration with local content partners and funded by the Chinese government, the show will offer a grand prize of an opportunity to be in a local movie launched on international platforms across the globe.
Speaking at the 5th Anniversary of the Exhibition Beijing Top TV Dramas and Movies Broadcasting Season, Dr. Kiprop Lagat, Director of Culture at the Ministry of Sports Culture and Heritage, noted that the collaboration is an opportunity for local talent to share experiences with the people of China through film.
The Next Superstar show will broadcast on StarTimes Sino Drama channel from December 8, adding to the growing list of local content productions on the platform.
