As of October 1, 2019, Save the Children has implemented a new paternity leave policy, providing employed parents with up to three months of paid leave. This change is in line with the organization's commitment to promoting ethnic and social inclusion in the workforce.
According to Save the Children CEO Kevin Watkins, increasing paternity leave is beneficial for the health, child development, and gender equality of parents. The new policy applies to all employed parents, including those with adopted children, and is backdated to October 1, 2019.
Save the Children's updated policy is in line with the Kenyan law, which provides for at least two weeks of paternity leave and three months of maternity leave with full pay. Other companies, such as East African Breweries Limited and Microsoft East Africa, have also enhanced their maternity and paternity leave policies in recent years.
For example, East African Breweries Limited offers up to six months of paid maternity leave and four weeks of paternity leave, while Microsoft East Africa provides 20 weeks of paid leave with six weeks of paternity leave.
Save the Children's new policy promotes a more inclusive and supportive work environment for parents, aligning with the organization's mission to improve the lives of children.
