On November 26, 2019, Simon Ngige made a significant move in the Safari Two golf tournament, taking the lead after the second round of play at the Great Rift Valley Lodge & Golf Resort.
Ngige, who started the day in fifth place, three strokes behind the overnight leader, Frank Matilo, capitalized on the slow start by the players in front of him to move to the top of the standings.
Ngige's round of one-under par, 70, was highlighted by a birdie on the par-5, sixth hole, and another at the par-4, ninth hole, for a turning score of one under par, 35.
Meanwhile, Frank Matilo had a round to forget, carding a score of 8-over par, 79, to send him stumbling down the standings to eighth place, tied with Mohit Mediratta, Amateur Simon Njogu, and Vet Lab's Edwin Asuza.
Andrew Oche Odoh of Nigeria moved into second place with a score of par, 72, while CJ Wangai of PGK tied for second place with a score of one over par, 72.
The cut was eventually set at 11-over par, with 24 players, including 22 professionals and 2 amateurs, advancing to the third and fourth rounds.
Round three action teed off at 9am, with players now focusing on a stake of the Sh1 million prize kitty.
