Published on November 26, 2019, Weekly Citizen has revealed a plot by powerful Mount Kenya forces surrounding President Uhuru Kenyatta to have one of their own as the next Auditor General to replace Edward Ouko whose term of office ended in August.

At one time, Uhuru publicly chided Ouko after a series of allegations were made against the performance of his office.

Edward Ouko was at loggerheads with Jubilee MPs who called for his removal citing corruption in the office of the Auditor General over tender procurement.

He later sued President Uhuru and Parliament in a bid to block his ouster from office.

According to sources, Uhuru has received three names to forward one to parliament for consideration within seven days to replace Ouko for an eight-year non-renewable term.

Former Deloitte East Africa CEO Sammy Onyango chaired a seven-man team that picked the three candidates.

Among the three is said to be one lady for gender balancing purposes.

Initial reports indicated that deputy Auditor General William Agunda, a Luo like Ouko, is likely not to get the slot.

Those claiming Agunda's fate is sealed argue that Stephen Masha was deputy Controller of Budget and was interviewed for the position but never landed the slot.

For Auditor General positions, 17 candidates were interviewed, including Abdullahi Abdi, a Somali of Kenyan origin who ran for Tarbaj constituency seat in 2017.
