On November 18, 2019, the Kiambu County Health department submitted 43 samples of Soko maize flour to the National Public Health Laboratories for analysis.

According to Dr. Kamundia Ndung'u, Chief Officer of Health Services, the results received on November 22, 2019, showed that all sampled batches of Soko, Amaize, and dry maize were in compliance with the Food, Drugs, and Chemical Substances Act (CAP 254 L.O.K).

Dr. Ndung'u emphasized that random checks of food products are within the county's mandate, and public health officials are vigilant in monitoring suspected cases of aflatoxin.

Capwell Industries Limited, the manufacturer of Soko maize meal, welcomed the results and assured county officials and customers of their commitment to food safety and health matters.

Mr. Mahesh Chavda, a representative of Capwell Industries, stated, 'We continue to monitor and control food safety parameters at each stage right from the sourcing of raw materials, transportation, storage, milling, packing, and dispatch. We also closely work with our distributors, wholesalers, and supermarkets to ensure that our products are properly stored in their premises to ensure product safety until it is bought by the consumer.'

Mr. Chavda added that Capwell Industries is HACCP Certified and adheres to national KEBS and global food production standards.
