On November 26, 2019, a disturbing video surfaced on social media showing a motorist assaulting a female security guard at Komarock Phase 5A in Nairobi.
The video, which sparked widespread outrage, showed the motorist parking his van and then walking towards the gate, where he opened it wide and confronted the guard.
When the guard attempted to close the gate, the motorist punched her in the head, knocking her down.
The guard managed to pull herself up and close the gate, but the motorist continued to assault her, prompting a woman and a man seated in the van to try and intervene.
However, the motorist threw a bag from the van and drove away, leaving behind the passengers and the helpless security guard.
Following the incident, Kenyans called on the DCI to follow up on the matter and arrest the motorist.
On the same day, the DCI tweeted that detectives were narrowing down on the perpetrator and that the lady security officer had been called upon to make a formal report in pursuit of justice.
“Detectives are already narrowing down on the perpetrator. Meanwhile, the lady security officer has been called upon to make a formal report in pursuit of justice. We greatly condemn such violence against anyone in the course of their duty,” DCI tweeted.
