Kenyan security agencies have taken Somalia's Jubbaland Vice-President Mohamud Sayyid Adan under their protection at a Mandera hotel, citing safety concerns.

According to sources, Mr Adan and his entourage were booked at the hotel five days ago by Kenyan security agencies in Mandera, with their security immediately taken over by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

A security source in Mandera revealed that Mr Adan was prevented from visiting Bula Hawa, a border Somali town, by some military forces.

When contacted for comment, KDF spokesperson Major Paul Njuguna failed to respond to several phone calls.
