On November 26, 2019, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck near the coast of Albania, marking the country's strongest earthquake in decades.
The quake, which occurred at 3:54 a.m. local time, was recorded about six miles northwest of Shijak and was felt in Tirana, a city of nearly 900,000 people.
According to a government spokesman, a few people were taken to a hospital in Tirana, and the worst damage to buildings was reported in Durres, a port town.
Just two months prior, a 5.6-magnitude quake had struck the same area, injuring dozens and damaging hundreds of homes.
Residents reported feeling the tremors from the latest quake, which was the strongest to hit Albania in 30 years, according to officials.
