On November 25, 2019, a helicopter carrying Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and his Devolution counterpart Eugene Wamalwa was forced to land in Eldoret due to bad weather.

According to CS Matiang'i, they were on their way to Kapenguria Referral Hospital to meet leaders and victims of the landslide in West Pokot, which had claimed 52 lives.

However, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has sensationally claimed that Raila Odinga called CS Matiang'i mid-air to ask him why he was not in Nairobi for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) preparations.

Sudi alleged that this call made Matiang'i to land in Eldoret and cancel the West Pokot trip.

Speaking on the incident, Sudi questioned why CS Matiang'i used weather as an excuse for not getting to West Pokot, given that DP William Ruto's chopper safely flew and landed in the area without any incident or weather problems.

He further wondered why Matiang'i did not travel by road, which would have taken only two hours from Eldoret to Kapenguria.

DP Ruto's chopper was used to airlift medical personnel to affected sites, while military choppers were being used by people who wanted to cling to power, Sudi added.
