On November 26, 2019, a devastating flood swept away a car in Kajiado County, claiming the lives of five family members.
The family, who were returning from Tanzania where they had attended a relative's wedding, were caught off guard by the swollen River Ngatatwok along the Kajiado-Namanga road.
According to Kajiado County Commissioner Joshua Nkatha, the driver attempted to cross the river, resulting in the tragic incident.
"It is very sad that we have lost members of one family in this incident. However, we are urging all motorists to be cautious when approaching this river," Nkatha said.
Meanwhile, in Machakos County, a newlywed couple, Benedict Mwilu Mutuku and Margaret Muthoki, died after their house collapsed due to heavy rains on Sunday night.
The incident occurred at around 3am in Kyai village, Kathekakai location, Machakos Town Constituency.
Assistant Chief Josephine Munyiva Mbithi stated that the house collapsed following a heavy downpour that hit the area throughout the night.
The couple's six-year-old son, who was sleeping in the sitting room, was woken up by the collapsing wall and found his parents dead.
