On November 24, 2019, a team of journalists from Daily Nation attended a service at Neno Evangelism Centre in Nairobi's CBD to investigate the church's practices.
During the service, Pastor James Ng'ang'a made a statement that set the tone for the rest of the investigation: "Last Sunday I asked you to come with Sh1,000. Today I want to see how many have done so. Some of you want to become rich but can't spare Sh1,000 to give to the pastor."
The journalists observed that worshippers were not allowed to exit the church during the service, especially during the offertory session, which lasted about an hour. Female ushers collected offerings in bags, and coins were not accepted.
One of the undercover journalists was told, "If you give a Sh50 note, as we did, the usher stoops down and whispered, 'God is watching you. You are stealing from the Lord.'"
At 5:30 pm, a two-hour deliverance session began, where those who were demon-possessed were exorcised. The team found out that it would cost Sh3,500 to have demons driven out of them.
Those who paid were led to the front and lined up along the altar barefoot as Pastor Ng'ang'a laid hands on them, asking the devil in them to come out and say his name.
