On November 25, 2019, a heinous crime shook the quiet village of Kiandegwa in Mwea West, Kirinyaga county. A 75-year-old woman was brutally murdered and her body dumped just one kilometre away from her home.
According to Wamumu Location Chief Geoffrey Mithamo, none of the woman's family members were present in her compound when the incident occurred. The chief suspects that the woman was raped before being strangled to death.
"We suspect they raped and killed her before dumping the body here," Mithamo said.
The woman's son was left reeling after being informed of the incident by a neighbour. He had spoken with his mother just the previous day, leaving him shocked and distraught.
"I was shocked because we had a discussion with her yesterday (Sunday) at about 4pm," the son, Muthie, said.
Detectives from Sagana Police Station arrived at the scene at around 12.30 pm on Monday and reported that the deceased was strangled to death. The body was taken to Karira Mission Hospital Mortuary in Mwea as investigations continue.
