Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed on Monday that striker Sergio Aguero will be sidelined for several weeks with a tendon injury, potentially ruling him out of the Manchester derby on December 7.
Aguero was replaced by Gabriel Jesus in Saturday's 2-1 win over Chelsea, and Guardiola expressed doubts about the Argentine's chances of recovering in time for the highly anticipated match.
“A few games, I don’t know exactly,” Guardiola said, referring to Aguero's expected absence. “The derby is in two weeks. Maybe we will have a miracle, but I don’t think so. He has a tendon problem in front.”
Guardiola also provided updates on the status of other injured players, including Rodri and David Silva, who were substituted due to cramps during the Chelsea match. Both players are expected to be fit for their next game, while Oleksandr Zinchenko continues to recover from knee surgery.
Manchester City currently tops Group C in the Champions League with 10 points, five ahead of Shakhtar Donetsk and Dinamo Zagreb, with two games remaining in the group stage.
Guardiola expressed confidence in his team's ability to cope with the injuries, saying, “We have enough good players to have enough quality there.”
