On a cloudy day at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu, Western Stima secured a crucial 1-0 win over KCB in a rescheduled Kenyan Premier League match on Monday.
The victory marked a significant turnaround for the hosts, who moved up to ninth place in the standings, level with Posta Rangers, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Sofapaka FC on 17 points.
Meanwhile, KCB slid down the standings, just two points adrift, after the loss.
Stima came off the blocks quickly, with Hassan Kikoyo missing a narrow chance in the third minute, only to be denied by KCB goalkeeper Joseph Okoth.
Despite the missed opportunities, Stima's persistence paid off in the second half, when coach Salim Babu made crucial substitutions, bringing in Henry Onyango for Lucas Weitere and Benson Ochieng' for Hassan Kikoyo.
The changes added urgency to Stima's attack, and six minutes after the break, a patient build-up play yielded a point-blank chance for Villa Oromchan, but he fluffed the chance after Okoth blocked his shot.
As the game swung from end to end, KCB showed some ambition, with skipper Mike Kibwage coming in handy with long-range crosses, but to no avail.
With the score still tied, Stima's substitute Benson Ochieng' scored a stoppage-time winner, securing a crucial 1-0 win for the hosts.
Stima's victory marked a significant milestone for the team, who have 15 points after the win.
