On Sunday evening, a 33-year-old woman was brutally murdered in a domestic brawl in the Silanga area of Kibera, Nairobi.
According to police, the suspect, a 25-year-old man who lived with the victim, has been taken into custody following the recovery of a blood-stained kitchen knife from his possession.
Police say the motive behind the incident is yet to be determined, but they are interrogating the suspect to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder.
“We assure women and all concerned we will protect them and ensure justice when needed,” said Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo.
Domestic violence cases are on the rise in informal settlements, with most victims being women, police noted.
Elsewhere, a gang of five armed robbers stormed a Chinese company along Mombasa Road, Nairobi, and made off with Sh650,000.
Police are urging victims of armed robbery to cooperate with the attackers and not resist, as their lives are more important.
