On Monday, Deputy President William Ruto landed in Kapenguria, West Pokot, amidst reports of bad weather in the area.

His visit came in the wake of massive landslides that occurred on Friday night, claiming the lives of over 45 people.

Earlier, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and Devolution Minister Eugene Wamalwa had planned to visit the area but were forced to land in Eldoret due to poor weather conditions.

According to Dr. Matiang'i, his chopper left Nairobi at 8:30am, but they were advised by pilots and experts to divert to Eldoret due to the bad weather.

Despite the challenges, Deputy President Ruto made it to Kapenguria Referral Hospital, where he visited those who had been admitted with injuries sustained during the landslide.

He was accompanied by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

Heavy rains continued to pound West Pokot, causing poor visibility and slowing down the retrieval of bodies and rescue operations.

The affected families have been relocated to schools and makeshift shelters.
