Kenyan Artists Shine at Afrima Awards

On November 25, 2019, the 6th edition of the All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) took place at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, Nigeria, recognizing outstanding talent in African music.

Kenyan rapper Khaligraph Jones made headlines by being voted the Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa, beating out compatriot Nyashinski for the coveted award.

Kenyan afro-pop boy band Sauti Sol also made a strong impression, taking home the award for Best Album of the Year in Africa with their album Afrikan Sauce. They also won the award for Best African Duo, Group or Band.

Swahili rock band Rash was crowned Best Artiste, Duo, or Group in African Rock, marking the second time the group has been nominated for the Afrima Awards.

At just 17 years old, Nikita Kering made a name for herself as the Best Female Artiste in Eastern Africa, and was also voted Revelation of the African Continent for her hit song Happy With You.

Other notable winners included Nigeria's Burna Boy, who took home the Artiste of the Year in Africa award, as well as the Best Male Artiste in Western Africa award. His compatriot Tiwa Savage won the Best Female Artist in Western Africa award.
