Former President Daniel arap Moi has been a patient at Nairobi Hospital for more than a month, with his press secretary, Mr Lee Njiru, confirming that he is making good progress.

Published on November 25, 2019, Mr Njiru stated that Mzee Moi's doctors are being cautious with his care to ensure a full recovery due to his advanced age.

"Mzee Moi, who is being attended to by a team of medics led by his physician Dr David Silverstein, has recovered, but his doctors feel he should build up his energy before he can be discharged," Mr Njiru said.

Mr Njiru expressed gratitude to Kenyans for their prayers, saying that Mzee Moi is doing well and that the medical team is hopeful that he will be discharged soon.

However, the doctors have yet to decide on the date of discharge.

Mzee Moi was readmitted to the hospital on November 9, just two days after being discharged, and has been taken to hospital several times in the last two months.

He first checked in at the hospital on October 12 for routine medical check-ups and was discharged and readmitted two weeks later on October 28.

He was left hospital and checked-in again on November 9.

On November 15, President Uhuru Kenyatta visited him at the hospital, where the two had a 'lengthy cheerful chat'. Mzee Moi ruled Kenya for 24 years, from 1978 after the death of founding president Jomo Kenyatta to 2002.
