On Monday, November 25, 2019, government officials, including Interior and Coordination of National Security cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i, addressed the press in Eldoret, assuring the public that the government is committed to addressing the challenges faced by West Pokot residents.

Dr. Matiang'i stated that the government is working closely with the West Pokot County leadership on the ongoing rescue mission, which has been hampered by poor weather conditions.

Inspector General of the Police Hillary Mutyambai added that rescue teams are moving families to safer grounds and taking the injured to nearby hospitals.

At the Kapenguria County hospital, 16 people are still receiving treatment, with two patients being referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret due to critical conditions.

Dr. Moses Deng, speaking at the hospital, reported that most patients sustained minor injuries, with only one patient having a fractured leg.

West Pokot County has set up a psychosocial support desk to offer counseling services to affected residents, who are still traumatized by the incident.

Chief Officer for Health Milka Psiwa explained that the county has established counseling centers in affected areas, as most bodies have been carried away and it may be difficult to recover them.
