Published on November 25, 2019, a 25-year-old tout, Job Nyabuto, has been charged with attempted defilement of his 15-year-old girlfriend in Mathare, Nairobi.

The minor, a secondary school student, had visited Nyabuto, who is their neighbour, and when her relatives realized she was missing, they found her locked up with the suspect in his house.

After being informed by the relatives, the girl's parents reported the matter to the police, who later apprehended the two and examined the minor at a clinic. The examination revealed that she had not been sexually assaulted.

According to the police, the suspect and the minor had been in a relationship and had even attempted to elope in August, but the girl's parents intervened.

During a court appearance before Makadara Law Courts Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga, Nyabuto denied the charges and was released on a bond of Sh 300,000 with a surety of similar amount. The hearing of the case is set to start on March 24, 2020.
