On November 17, 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded at Khalanda Village in Navakholo sub-county, where a woman was allegedly threatened with death by her co-wife.

Electine Khakasa, the accused, was charged with threatening to kill Angeline Ngao, 45, and insulting her. According to court documents, the incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon when Ngao was resting under a tree shade in her compound.

Khakasa allegedly disrupted Ngao's peace, shouting words that left her shocked and frightened. When Ngao attempted to enquire what was wrong, Khakasa became more abusive, ordering her to leave the compound and go to 'her men'.

The accused allegedly told Ngao that her days in their matrimonial property were numbered since she would eliminate her and consequently bury her. In a shocking display of aggression, Khakasa is said to have shouted, 'Nenda ukalale na mabwana zako,' disparaging her co-wife.

When Khakasa appeared before Kakamega Resident Magistrate William Lopokoiyit, she denied the offence. She was granted Sh80,000 bond with a surety of similar amount and the matter shall be heard on January 27, 2020.
