Kenya News: Raila and Uhuru to Host BBI Meeting Amidst Landslides and County Debt ¶
On November 27, Kenyan leaders Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta are set to host a meeting of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) at the Bomas of Kenya.
According to the Daily Nation, the meeting will bring together 100 representatives from all 47 counties, with the BBI team expected to officially endorse the report on November 26.
The move comes as the country grapples with the aftermath of landslides in Pokot West, where over 40 people lost their lives on November 22.
Meanwhile, the Star reports that 15 counties will miss out on revenue sharing due to their failure to settle debts.
The affected counties include Narok, Machakos, Nairobi, Vihiga, Isiolo, Tana River, Migori, Tharaka Nithi, and Kiambu.
The National Treasury attributed the counties' failure to follow the instructions of the Inter-County Budget and Economic Committee (IBEC), led by Deputy President William Ruto.
On a separate note, the Standard reports that families from Murang'a County have been relocated to safer areas due to the threat of landslides.
The Red Cross has asked residents of Kangema and Mathioya to relocate as the areas are prone to landslides.
According to Murang'a County's Meteorological Department, 88 areas in the small counties of Mathioya, Kahuro, Kangema, and Kigumo are at risk of landslides.
These areas are among those affected by the recent landslides in Pokot West, where over 40 people lost their lives on November 22.
