On Sunday, two police officers from Kilifi were caught accepting a bribe in Mavueni, Kilifi County.
According to reports, the officers were stopped by Kilifi County Police Commander Rashid Yaqub, who had been driving to Mombasa from Malindi.
Yaqub had seen the officers being bribed by a matatu driver and decided to intervene.
"I stopped my car and found out that the matatu driver had given them a KSh 1,000 note," Yaqub said.
Yaqub then took the officers to the Kilifi Police Station and handed them over to Kilifi North Sub-County Police Commander Njoroge Ngigi.
However, the officers, Inspector Joseph Kirui and Constable Patrick Safari, were later released on a KSh 3,000 bond each.
The incident has sparked debate on whether the officers should be charged under the Police Act or taken to court.
Yaqub has said that the officers will be charged under the Police Act, but if they are not found guilty, they will be taken to court.
