South Africa's Department of Home Affairs has launched a pilot program for e-visas, aiming to simplify the visa application process for Kenyans.

As of November, Kenyans can apply for e-visas online, eliminating the need to visit the South African embassy in Nairobi or fill out paperwork.

The online application process takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and requires applicants to provide basic details such as passport information and trip details.

According to the Department of Home Affairs, the e-visa system is being tested to identify any issues with the system and to develop possible solutions.

The pilot program is part of South Africa's efforts to grow its tourism sector and make it more accessible for foreign investors and skilled workers.

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has stated that the department is considering expanding the e-visa system to other countries, including India, China, and Nigeria.

Additionally, the Department of Home Affairs is working with the Airport Company South Africa (Acsa) to introduce e-gates at South African airports, which will facilitate low-risk travelers and free up capacity for high-risk categories.
