November 8, 2019, marked the beginning of a desperate search for Mr. Moses Odumbe, a 49-year-old primary school teacher from Homa Bay County. He had traveled to Nairobi to mark the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations, but his family has not heard from him since.
According to his wife, Joyce Odumbe, Mr. Odumbe left their home in Kogana Village at 5:30 pm on November 8, bound for St. George's Girls Secondary School in Nairobi. He was to mark the exams, but the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has denied that he participated in the exercise.
Joyce and her family began to worry when Mr. Odumbe failed to contact them, despite his promise to inform them during times when he was free from marking the national exams. They have since reported the matter at Kendu Bay and Kilimani Police stations in Homa Bay and Nairobi counties respectively.
The family's search for Mr. Odumbe has taken them to the KNEC offices, where they were told that he never participated in the KCPE marking exercise. The family is now seeking answers about Mr. Odumbe's disappearance and is calling on anyone with information to come forward.
