On Saturday, November 23, 2019, police in Busia conducted a sting operation that led to the arrest of two individuals found in possession of fake rubber-stamps.
The fake stamps were for various government agencies, including the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), Zetech University, and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS).
Police also recovered bottles containing chemicals used to make the stamps during the operation.
Three forex bureau officers were also arrested for allegedly collaborating with the suspects to con unsuspecting Kenyans.
The suspects were being held at the Busia Police Station over the weekend and are expected to be arraigned at the Busia Law Courts on Monday.
County Commander John Nyoike stated that the fake stamps were being used to produce fake documents for the county government of Busia and gullible Kenyans.
He called on the county government to seek assistance from genuine government offices to avoid being conned.
